Report on Mountain-Con 4

It's Sunday evening after the convention, and all the staff are either cleaning up those last pesky stains...um, leftovers of convention life, traveling home, or passed out from exhaustion.

I wanted to share something cool that happened on our first day ...

Friday (Sept. 19, 2008) at the Davis Conference Center saw not only Mountain-Con 4, but Hill Air Force Base's annual ball ... a very formal affair. Several soldiers and officers were staying at the connected Hilton Garden Inn/Layton and had to travel through Mountain-Con to get to their own event...and several were interested in attending Mountain-Con.

Here's what's REALLY cool about Friday ...

Pictured here are several personnel stationed at Hill AFB. They are (in no particular order): SrA Eric Alexander, SrA Shawnya Alexander, SSgt LaDonna Gardner, Tsgt Erick Gardner, MSgt Tina M. Samaniego, AlC Matthew Tsarj, Amn Aaron Sabin, SSgt Glenn Jajliardo, and Tsgt Marcul Demil.
(My apologies if I have misspelled any of these names.)

Perhaps you should see the wider view of this picture:

Air Force personnel under a Stargate. How cool is that?

More reports about Mountain-Con 4 later.
It has been a lot of fun (and a lot of work), and we are looking forward to Mountain-Con 5.

Reason #8 to attend Mountain-Con 4

Hopefully, you've been eagerly awaiting the following blog...

Reason #8 to attend Mountain-Con:
Sarah Douglas

Although we may recognize her best as "Ursa", General Zod's right-hand woman in the first two Superman movies (starring Christopher Reeve), Ms. Douglas is an accomplished actress who has been in several of our favorite shows...

Some of Ms. Douglas's other science fiction, fantasy, and horror roles include:

  • "Pamela" in V: The Final Battle (television series)

  • "Queen Taramis" in Conan the Destroyer

  • "Dr. Lana Zurell" in Return of the Swamp Thing

  • "Lyranna Tagget" in Beastmaster 2

  • "Elsa Toulon" in Puppet Master III

  • "Lt. Col. Sinclair" in Return of the Living Dead III

  • "B" in a Space 1999 episode

  • "Lady Whitehurst" in an episode of The Wizard

  • "Deathwalker/Jha'Dur" in an episode of Babylon 5

  • "Yosuuf/Garshaw of Belote" in an episode of Stargate SG-1

Ms. Douglas also starred as "Pamela Lynch" on Falcon Crest, which ran for two years ('83 - '85) and has had several other guest starring roles on Magnum P.I., The Love Boat, The Return of The Saint, Matlock, Remington Steele, and many others.

Ms. Douglas has offered a very rare event she calls "An Evening with Sarah Douglas", which is an intimate gathering of people that lasts for about 90 minutes. It is a private event, and has never been held outside of England ... until now. "An Evening with Sarah Douglas" is a special event at Mountain-Con, and thus has an additional fee.

Reason #6 to attend Mountain-Con 4

It's that time of week again, when we tell you what is new and exciting with Mountain-Con...

Reason #6 to attend Mountain-Con:
Cool props

Mountain-Con is lucky to have some great prop-makers on staff. In addition, this year we are going to have some life sized B9 robots (the kind from "Lost in Space") coming all the way from Colorado.

Visit the props page on our Web site.

These (really COOL) robots were built by a gentleman who is known on our forums as "ColoradoDroid" (and his friends). ColoradoDroid has said that he's also working on a life sized remote control R2D2 robot. (Bring that next year, eh?)

The Stargate, on the other hand, has been a staple at Mountain-Con ever since the first convention.

Originally built for a costuming convention, Mountain-Con was able to take possession of the Stargate prop. It served us well for two conventions, and now lives somewhere on the West Coast. The second Stargate was built specifically for Mountain-Con III...and we had some issues when it was put up (too much stress...it broke during setup). There is another one in process for Mountain-Con 4.

Check out this video from You Tube which will explain the "Saga of the Stargate".

(Note: we have yet to bury the second one in the desert...but we want to. Any volunteers?)
